Chicago, IL

Evolo 2012 Skyscraper Competition

Dec/2011 - Feb/2012

This competition entry for Evolo's Skyscraper competition proposes the re-structuring of Fermi Lab's outdated cyclotron system into a vertical context for the use of air and water purification. Employing recently discovered cyclotron/particle accelerator concepts, air and water is delivered from adjacent brownfield and waste sites throughout Chicago via large-scale tubes, chilled and accelerated, and subsequently purified using an electron beam powered by the cyclotron. The purified product is delivered back to the source via exhaust tubes, and waste products disposed of.

The complex offers an interior atrium within which researchers may live and work as they use the complex equipment for research. Modular housing units are suspended within this atrium for researchers, which may subsequently be dismantled, re-serviced, or added on to for future use.
