Richard J. Daley Library

Chicago, IL

Prof. Leslie Johnson (Dirk Denison + Assoc)

Jan/2011 - May/2011

This proposal for a library is situated in Chicago's South Side along Halsted Street. The concept features a large communal atrium for meetings, presentations, and performances which can be opened up to the exterior. While this dominant mass is fully glazed, the adjacent library wings which flank its short ends are totally enclosed in an undulating wood pattern intended to relate to the largely masonry-clad surroundings. The primary construction is glu-lam timber. The corresponding images showcase both final and process work.
